Why Chaitanyam Eye Care Institute?

The fundamental basic value system that forms the foundation on which our initiative of Chaitanyam Eye Care Institute stands is the Spirit of Sacrifice and Vasudeva Kutumbakam, considering the whole world as one family.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 8 million people in India are totally blind, and 33.8% of the population aged 45+ have distance visual acuity impairment or are blind.

Age and illiteracy are significantly associated with blindness. 92.9% of blindness is due to avoidable causes, including cataract, corneal opacity, cataract surgical complications, posterior segment disorders, and glaucoma.

Vision impairment and blindness are more common among marginalized groups and are associated with lower socioeconomic status. Women are more likely than men to be visually impaired or blind in all states.

Early detection and treatment of the leading causes of blindness such as cataract are important in reducing the prevalence of blindness and vision impairment.

Understanding this need and to facilitate this by providing Awareness and Quality Eye Care to the rural population of Kolhapur, we are establishing this institute.
